Back in attendance after years of pandemic, the prestigious Watches and Wonders 2022 event, the fine watchmaking show in Geneva, unveiled the new trends in the sector.

Today, as always, maximum precision is required of a luxury watch, of course, but not only.

Needs and desire for ever higher performance: The Lab, an experimentation laboratory, was born to meet these very high demands; a real watchmaking incubator of the future.

“Black more than black”: the visitors’ eyes were all for him, the “Blacker than Black” as the new Streamliner Chronograph Flyback Automatic by the eclectic H. Moser & Cie was immediately renamed, completely made of Vantablack, a very special material composed of carbon nanotubes with the extraordinary ability to absorb up to 99.965% of light.

The display was spectacular: the watch was placed on a black carbon support, “disappearing” in a fascinating infinity full of mystery and elegance.

The only disadvantage of this wonderful object of desire: the object is very fragile, so fragile that it cannot be worn yet.

Then there is the rarest and most expensive precious metal on Earth: osmium, which shines from the Frozen Star dial of the new Antarctique S designed by Czapek.

Eleven times rarer than gold, the dial of this watch is sturdy, solid and resistant but also gives an impression of extreme brightness and lightness.

In addition to rarities, however, there are also new trends: the real “password” is sustainability.

Panerai, the Italian brand that has always been linked to the life of the sea and oceans, for some years already at the forefront of forging materials and virtuous manufacturing processes, continues its commitment with the Submersible QuarantaQuattro made of eSteel, a new generation metal obtained from 100% recycled steel scrap.
