Once busy roads full of tourists in Pattaya are now ghost towns at night

To TPN editors,

TPN reported the noise of firecrackers on Jomtien Beach Road caused by illegal sales on Jomtien Beach on Friday, Jan. 28, 2023, and local residents successfully complained about it. I think it was right for the city police to intervene.

Even more necessary is the monitoring of the main roads in Jomtien due to the constant noise, especially at night, caused by drivers of heavy motorcycles and tuned pickups. They’re having fun. Primarily Thappraya Road, but also Jomtien 2nd Road, and Thepprasit Road are used as racetracks.

Residents in the many residential complexes along these streets feel massively disturbed during the night by the noise of howling, and roaring and deliberately caused misfires, especially in winter, when they like to leave the windows and balcony doors open because of the cooling wind. Every 15 to 30 minutes one is roused from sleep by one or more of these vehicles.

If Pattaya wants to be considered a family-friendly seaside resort and tourist destination and also encourages retirees from all over the world to buy or rent a condo here, then the authorities should ensure that they get their right to an undisturbed night’s sleep.

Sincerely

Dieter R.
