Pattaya —
Bar operators in Pattaya have been told to mute their airhorns after residents in nearby areas bombarded police with numerous noise complaints.
In an official statement addressed to bar operators in Pattaya, Pattaya City says the following:
The Pattaya authorities have recently issued an official statement regarding the management and control of businesses within the Pattaya city area. The statement aims to prevent disturbances that may negatively impact the health of the public.
The authorities received multiple complaints from residents about the loud noise caused by the use of airhorns, whistles, and boat horns at bars and other nightlife establishments in Pattaya. To address this issue, the authorities have requested cooperation from business operators to comply with the following regulations:
- Open and close establishments during the hours specified by law.
- Control the use of music and other loud noises within the establishment and refrain from using airhorns, whistles, and boat horns inside or outside of the establishment.
- Remove any existing airhorns, whistles, or boat horns from the establishment.
These regulations must be fully complied to by March 15, 2023, to prevent any further disturbances to residents in the surrounding areas.
These horns are commonly used in bar areas as an alternative to bells to give drinks to all the staff, or just the hostesses, notes TPN media. Bells were not banned by the new order. It is also unclear if the horns may still be allowed in completely enclosed venues like gogos.
