After presenting the new Objets Nomades collection during the latest edition of the Fuorisalone, Louis Vuitton officially opens its new Milan headquarters a stone’s throw from Piazza San Babila, inside the historic ex Garage Traversi in via Bagutta.

Designed by Giuseppe de Min and built in 1939, the former Garage Traversi represents an example of rationalist architecture in the urban landscape of the city: characterized by eight floors connected by a helical ramp and built with a car hoist system, it was a real novelty for that era.

The new space of the maison is spread over three levels: the ground floor and second floor are dedicated to retail, while the first floor is designed to host special projects, exhibitions and cultural events. For the project concept, Louis Vuitton wanted to maintain the “original architectural box of the Thirties thanks to the use of a system of curved walls that leave the monumental fan-shaped reinforced concrete beams exposed”.

The identity of the space is marked by intense color palettes ranging from yellow to fuchsia for the ground floor, dedicated to women’s collections, passing through Klein blue on the second floor, dedicated to men’s collections but also vintage furnishings by historic Italian design brands, works of art, objects from the Louis Vuitton historical archive.

The opening of the new space was characterized by the presentation of the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collection, protagonist of the interiors with a special immersive installation that celebrates the art and aesthetic elements of the Japanese artist’s creative universe, amidst yellow and black polka dots and maxi spheres in reflective metal. Even the windows on the facade are dedicated to Kusama, where colored pumpkins of different sizes alternate.
